...and unwind in the comfort of the cottage with the log fire crackling, or sit on the verandah watching the sun set over Mt Sturgeon, listening to the evening call of the kookaburras, or admiring the ancient towering gum tree lit up like a sentinel at night. Wander through the spacious, well cared for gardens, or light up the wood barbecue located beside your cottage

Wildlife

Renowned for its wildlife, the Grampians is a sanctuary for native mammals and reptiles, as well as over 200 species of birds. Many of these can be observed in our property. Kangaroos have taken up residence here in dry seasons, the odd echidna or lizard wanders through, resident possums sleep by day in ancient gum hollows, and birds such as kookaburras, currawongs, magpies, wattle birds and lorrikeets make this home or a place of frequent visits.

Children's Activities

We have a safe playground for small children, a volleyball net, sporting equipment, board and card games and children's DVD's. Children may also like to help feed our free range hens and collect the eggs, view the black sheep in an adjacent paddock or our cockatiels and finches in the aviaries.

Wildflowers

Watch the colour of hundreds of species of wildflowers unfold between April and November within a couple of kilometres of the cottages - at the lower slopes of the Piccaninny and Mt Sturgeon, as well as the Grampians Golf Course (5 km away) where visitors are welcome to wander.

Mountain Climbing

For the energetic, the three southern peaks of the Grampians beckon. The smallest, The Piccanniny, is an ideal walk for families. The 2.5km round trip takes about an hour and offers good views of Dunkeld. Mt Sturgeon is closest to the cottages, just over a kilometre away, and the well formed track to the summit provides panoramic views of the surrounding ranges and volcanic plains (7km return - about 2.5 hours). Mt Abrupt offers a more challenging ascent to the summit, but the climber is afforded some of the best views of the area (6.5km return - about 3 hours)
